Herstmonceux
Science Centre is
an discovery centre in East Sussex where children (and adults) can experience
science through hands-on activities. There are also special events organised
throughout the year. INSPIRE
Science Centre gives hands-on science fun
housed in St. Michael’s Coslany, one of Norwich’s finest Medieval Churches.
Island Planetarium,
Fort Victoria, Yarmouth, Isle of White Otford
Solar System Walk gives you an idea
about the scale of the solar system. On the recreation ground you find
the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars and Jupiter. Then it's an expedition
around the village looking for Saturn to Pluto. All the planets are at
their correct relative sizes, distances and positions to each other (more
or less!) as on 1st January 2000 - It's a millennium solar system walk.
Great for children to find out how really big the solar system is. Southend
Planetarium gives shows for
school parties, groups and the general public. Shows run from Wednesday
to Saturday.

a 3D virtual world created using ultramodern technologies. Explore the
universe by travelling to the far-reaches of space. Learn about the night

and laser-light music spectaculars. More than just a planetarium! Norman Lockyer Observatory, Sidmouth, Devon
Leicester
Space Science Centre will take you on an awe-inspiring journey
of discovery through interactive challenges, images, sounds and real space
hardware. The stories, personalities and technology of the past and present
will combine to explain our current understanding of space and how it
will affect our future. The Challenger Learning Centre where you can take
part in space missions is currently open for booked groups (mainly school
parties). The centre also houses a planetarium. Jodrell
Bank Science Centre stands beside the world famous Lovell
Radio Telescope and the Nuffield Radio Astronomy Laboratories of the University
of Manchester. It contains a 170 seat Planetarium. The objectives of the
Centre are to educate and inform the public on astronomy; space technology;
energy; and the environment; through exhibitions and hands-on exhibits.
The planetarium is used for star shows and interactive 'galactic adventure'.
South
Tyneside College Planetarium The Spaceguard Centre includes telescopes, a camera obscura, a seismic station and a 25 seater planetarium. School and group tours can be booked for any time during the year. Location: Knighton, Powys Techniquest
is the UK's leading science discovery centre. There are 160 exciting hands-on
exhibits: puzzles, challenges and scientific marvels, to enthuse and amuse
the whole family! Then there's a Planetarium, a Lab, a Discovery Room,
and a hi-tech Science Theatre.
Armagh
Planetarium provides a broad range of educational resources for
schools to all school parties from Northern Ireland. A mail order shop
provides a wide range of educational materials. Armagh Planetarium offers
star shows and talks on astronomy to schools in Northern Ireland. An 'Astrovan'
outreach programme can be booked by schools at a small charge. INSET astronomy
courses for teachers. Video material produced. Posters, slides, video
tapes, etc.
Coats
Observatory, Paisley is an astronomical observatory
with 128mm and 256mm refractors, meteorological station and a seismic
station. It is open to public on Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm; Sunday 2pm-5pm.
(Last entry 15 minutes before closing.) Mills
Observatory, Dundee is a full-time public astronomical observatory,
with open evenings throughout the winter and in daytime during the summer.
There are permanent and temporary exhibitions on astronomy and space science,
children's summer workshops, winter lecture courses and planetarium shows.
Satrosphere
is a science and technology centre where the world comes alive through
hands-on experience. Find out about energy, where oil comes from, what
keeps aeroplanes up, how colour television works - and how the planet
works!
La
Coupole is a history centre of war and rockets.
Discover the hidden facets of world war II and the conquest of space.
This is an imposing underground V2 missile base built in 1943 and converted
into a history centre with an audio headset tour lasting over two hours.
It includes models, exhibitions, underground passages, and two cinemas.
La
Cite is a museum of science and industry. It combines permanent
and temporary exhibitions devoted to major scientific, technological and
industrial themes of our time. Space forms part of the permanent exhibitions,
with areas covering space exploration, satellites, launch vehicles (Ariane
5), shuttles and living in space. There is also a 300 seat planetarium.
Euro
Space Centre and Camp consists of a permanent exhibition
and show describing space technology, exploration and applications, and
a space camp based on the US Space Camp concept at Huntsville, Alabama.
You can practice with construction and launching of a mini-rocket, with
computer use; training in the multi-axis chair, in the pool simulating
weightlessness, and in a device which recreates Moon gravity; close-to-reality
space mission in a Space Shuttle simulator. There is also a full-size
mock-up of a shuttle orbiter.
